How does embarkation and disembarkation work on a cruise?

This is a common question among travelers. When we received our cruise documentation, it included tags for our luggage. These tags were A4 sheets.
After filling them out with our information, I folded them according to specific instructions provided in the documentation. Once folded, I attached the tags to our luggage.
On embarkation day, upon arriving at the port, it’s necessary to check in our large luggage. I left the luggage with the crew, who took care of transporting it to our cabin.
The tags help identify the luggage and ensure it reaches the correct destination. Therefore, it’s crucial to fill out the tags correctly, though the instructions were clear and straightforward.
After checking in our luggage, we proceeded to the check-in process. This is similar to airport procedures where we presented our documents, tickets, and passports.
We then received an access card. This card serves as our room key, identification, and onboard payment method. It’s important to keep it handy at all times during the cruise.
The embarkation and disembarkation procedures on the MSC Orchestra and MSC Divina were similar. If you still have any questions, I’ll explain in detail how everything works next.

As I mentioned before, embarkation on the MSC Orchestra and MSC Divina goes smoothly!
Check-in takes place in a hall before boarding the ship, where several staff members direct passengers to their respective check-in counters. Don’t worry, the process is well-signposted and organized, minimizing the risk of getting lost.
Once you’ve completed check-in, you can proceed to embark. The process is done in groups to avoid confusion.
And it works! Luggage is delivered directly to the cabin a few hours later, as the cabins are not yet ready at that time.
During this interval, passengers can explore the ship and enjoy its facilities. Often, it’s recommended to head to the restaurant for the first meal on board.
For those traveling with children, this is also the ideal time to register them for the kids’ and teens’ clubs, where they’ll have access to various age-appropriate activities.

The disembarkation procedures begin the day before departure, meaning large luggage is collected the previous night.
We need to label our luggage and leave it outside our cabin the night before disembarkation. On the morning of departure, we have breakfast and await our turn to leave. Similar to embarkation, the process of departure is organized into groups.
New tags will be left in your cabin to identify your bags, along with an invoice detailing onboard expenses and instructions on where to gather on disembarkation day.
If there are any discrepancies in the invoice or if there are charges to settle, you’ll need to visit guest services.
As mentioned, luggage must remain outside the cabin until a specified time, typically until 1:00 AM as per our experience, but it’s advisable to verify this.
On the day of disembarkation, after breakfast, proceed to the designated meeting point and await authorization to leave.
Present your access card for final check-out and retrieve your luggage from the designated area.
In our opinion, this is the most tedious part of the cruise journey as it can be time-consuming.
From what I gather, passengers who have purchased the cruise + flight package are usually among the first to disembark, as they need to catch their flights.
Finally, upon disembarking, you will pass through the area where your luggage is located, simply collect it and continue your journey.
Extra Information:
I have extra information to share about embarking and disembarking a cruise!
So, recently, some cruise lines have allowed passengers to choose to carry their own luggage off the ship, meaning they do not have to leave it outside the cabin the night before.
I think this is an excellent way for passengers to disembark quickly, and it seems likely that other cruise ships will adopt this procedure in the future.
