5 Myths and Truths About Cruises

Does the ship rock a lot?

Myth.

While it’s possible to feel motion at times, it’s not accurate to say the ship rocks a lot.

During our experience on the MSC Orchestra, for example, we never noticed any significant rocking. In fact, this ship provided us with a stable and tranquil journey, allowing us to enjoy onboard activities without concerns about sea motion. We hardly felt like we were at sea!

However, aboard the MSC Divina, there were occasional slight movements, but nothing discomforting.

From what I gathered, the sensation of rocking can vary depending on the size of the ship and weather conditions.

Therefore, smaller ships or adverse weather conditions may experience more noticeable motion, but cruise companies are equipped to minimize any negative impact on passenger experience.

So, don’t worry about ship motion during a cruise journey.

Cruises are for older people?

Myth.

Cruises are designed for people of all ages to have maximum fun. And it’s true!

From Disney-themed cruises to singles cruises, there are cruise travel options for everyone’s interests.

In fact, I never tire of saying that taking a cruise is an excellent way to travel, combining comfort, entertainment, and a variety of onboard activities.

Moreover, themed cruises like those offered by Disney are especially popular among families and children.

Therefore, the notion that cruises are exclusively for older people does not reflect the diversity of experiences and activities available.

Regardless of age, there is a cruise suitable for every lifestyle and interest, offering a unique and exciting way to travel and explore the world. Believe it and embark on the adventure!

Cruises are very expensive?

Myth.

Cruises vary in price, just like any other form of travel.

In fact, from my experience, if you book in advance, you can find real bargains.

There are economical options with great value, especially if you’re willing to adjust dates and destinations based on available deals.

The truth is that many cruise companies offer seasonal promotions and discounts, making travel affordable for all budgets.

Additionally, it’s worth noting that typically included in the cruise package are meals, entertainment, and onboard activities, which can result in significant savings compared to other forms of travel where these items are additional costs.

However, it’s also important to consider additional expenses like shore excursions and alcoholic beverages, which can vary depending on the itinerary and personal preferences.

Can I get lost on a cruise?

Truth.

It’s hard to admit, but I’ve gotten lost more than once inside a cruise ship!

Even though the corridors are well-signaled, the complexity of the structure and the sheer number of corridors can be quite confusing, especially on lower decks where the layout can be more labyrinthine.

However, a benefit is that crew members are often present in the corridors, ready to assist and guide passengers.

Additionally, many cruise ships provide detailed maps of common areas and decks, which can help in planning routes and avoiding getting lost.

Therefore, while it’s possible to become disoriented on a cruise due to its extensive layout, there are resources and personnel available to ensure all passengers feel safe and comfortable during the journey.

Cruises are a great way to explore multiple cities or islands in one trip?

Truth.

Exploring multiple destinations without the hassle of packing and unpacking is something many travelers appreciate, myself included.

After all, the opportunity to visit different places in one journey, with a variety of cultural and scenic experiences, is hard to achieve in other forms of travel.

Therefore, while it’s true that time in each destination may be limited, cruises provide a significant sampling of local life and major attractions.

In other words, you can take advantage of organized tours to maximize time on land and get an overview of each visited location.

Moreover, returning to the ship at night is quite enjoyable, knowing you’ll wake up in a different port the next day.

All this without changing hotels and the discomfort of transportation.

And another point I haven’t mentioned yet, I would say cruise cabins are equivalent to 4 or 5-star hotels, meaning they are very comfortable.
