I spent a week in this amazing city in the Peloponnese, which allowed me to explore Loutraki in great detail.
Therefore, I believe that in this article you will find everything you need to know to have a dream vacation in Loutraki.
In fact, Loutraki is famous for several things: it’s a popular seaside resort, has one of the largest casinos in Eupora and has healing thermal waters since ancient times.
I also realized that it has beautiful holy churches, the gastronomy is incredible and it has impressive archaeological sites just a few kilometers away.
And the good news is that all this is just an hour or so from Athens. As you can see, there are plenty of good reasons to read on.

Things to do and visit in Loutraki, Greece
Exploring Loutraki’s rich thermal history
The benefits of Loutraki’s thermal waters have been known since ancient times. In fact, after fighting terrible battles, the soldiers of Sparta went to this region to recuperate their bodies.
I therefore recommend that you take advantage of your trip to enjoy these waters, which some say are miraculous.
And how can you benefit from this thermalism? My suggestion is that you book some treatments at the Loutraki Thermal Spa.
To complete the experience, you can also visit the thermal spring for free, where a friendly employee offers you glasses of water to drink.
Strolling along Loutraki Beach
This city has always been famous for its beaches, and I can tell you that yes, they are beautiful.
And not just in summer, as you can enjoy the tranquillity of these places all year round.
The good news is that this beach runs almost the entire length of the city, meaning you have a few kilometers to go.
For me, the best time to stroll along the promenade is at the end of the day, when people start gathering to go to the restaurants.
This is also when the sun goes down, so make the most of it!
Discover the churches of Loutraki
Church of Panagia Giatrissa
Here are three suggestions for churches to visit in Loutraki, which I think are very worthwhile. The first suggestion is the Church of Panagia Giatrissa or Holy Church of Our Lady of Yatrissa.
The church is beautiful, with an octagonal dome, but the real wealth is inside. In other words, this church houses a miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, which depicts the young Mother of God holding the Child Jesus
It is said to have been brought from Jerusalem in 1928 and since then many miracles have taken place.
The church was initially built as a chapel, but the number of worshippers grew so much that it had to be enlarged.
So if you’re in Loutraki, this church is definitely a must-visit.
Church of Agios Fanourios
On the other hand, the Church of Agios Fanourios, or Ekklisia Agios Fanourios, is a little further from the center, at the foot of Mount Gerania.
But believe me, it’s worth the effort, as the blue and white colors of the walls are reminiscent of other Greek desnos.
This temple is dedicated to two saints, Agios Fanourios and Apostle Kosmas Etolos, and was inaugurated on July 31, 1969.
It is also an excellent place from which to observe the city of Loutraki and the Bay of Corinth.
Ekklisia Agios Ioannis
Finally, Ekklisia Agios Ioannis is an Orthodox church in the center of Loutraki, Greece.
I passed this church several times but it was always closed, so I couldn’t see inside.
It has traditional architecture, with ornate doors and although it’s not one of the best-known sights in Loutraki, I think it’s worth a visit.
Going to the Loutraki casino
It may be news to you, but the Loutraki casino is one of the largest in Europe.
As far as I can tell, it has around 62 gaming tables, 700 top slot machines and a VIP lounge, meaning it has plenty of entertainment for players.
What’s more, as the casino is located in a resort, it is often visited not only by gamblers, but also by curious people looking for entertainment.
Climb Up to Mount Gerania
Mount Gerania, or the Gerania Mountains, forms the stunning backdrop to Loutraki and is visible from almost every part of the city.
There are several trails leading up Mount Gerania, and I followed part of the path towards the Holy Monastery of Saint Patapios.
One of the best things about this route is that it leads to the spot where everyone comes to capture the iconic photo of Loutraki.
In fact, I stumbled upon this viewpoint by chance while hiking up Mount Gerania, but believe me, I’m not complaining!
Accommodation in Loutraki
When it comes to choosing where to stay in Loutraki, I recommend the Club Casino Hotel (5 stars), which although not in the city center, is just a short walk away.
However, it has other advantages, such as a spa with hot water pools, jacuzzi, hammam and sauna, which guests can use for free.
The rooms are large and very comfortable and the breakfast is super complete.
And to complete the experience, I can’t forget to mention the outdoor pools, overlooking the Gulf of Corinth and with direct access to the beach.

Everything you need to know before traveling to Loutraki
What to see around Loutraki
As I mentioned before, I spent a week exploring the city, but there are other tourist attractions near Loutraki.
In fact, on this trip I took the opportunity to visit the Corinth Canal, Lake Vouliagmeni, the Heraion of Perachora and the Archaeological Museum of Ancient Corinth.
However, on other trips I’ve had the opportunity to explore other places that, although not far away, are well worth a visit.

Is Loutraki in Greece worth a visit?
Yes, Loutraki is definitely worth a visit!
I particularly enjoyed learning about the history of the thermal waters, whose benefits have been known since ancient times, the relaxed atmosphere of the seaside town, the gastronomy and the warm welcome I received.
When is the best time to visit?
Most visitors choose the hot summer months to visit Loutraki, however, my trip was in February and I have no reason to complain.
In fact, everything went very well, with reasonable weather and hardly any tourists.
So, if you’d rather have a quieter experience in the Peloponnese, I’d recommend traveling in the low season.
How long to visit Loutraki?
I stayed for a week and did different things every day, so I recommend choosing to stay in Loutraki for between 5-7 days.
What is the nearest airport?
The nearest airport to Loutraki is Athens Airport, which is about 100 km away.
Where is Loutraki, Greece and how to get there?
Loutraki is located on the coast of the Gulf of Corinth, in Greece, about 80 km from Athens.
Athens International Airport receives direct flights from several European cities. From Portugal, there are connections from Lisbon with TAP Air Portugal and Aegean Airlines.
Also, from Spain, you can take advantage of direct flights from Madrid and Barcelona with Iberia, Aegean Airlines and Vueling.
From London, there are options from Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted with British Airways, Aegean Airlines, Ryanair and Wizz Air.
Finally, for those traveling from the United States, there are several options. From New York, both JFK and Newark have direct flights with Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and Emirates.
I traveled from Porto with Turkish Airlines, making a stopover at Istanbul Airport.
