But there is one experience that rarely appears in travel articles and that undoubtedly deserves more attention: Street Kart in Tokyo.

The street Go-Kart Tour “Real Life SuperHero Go-Karting” in Tokyo is a unique activity that allows you to drive a real kart on the city streets, alongside cars, motorcycles, and trucks.
In other words, it is not a closed circuit or a controlled track; the avenues and intersections themselves serve as the backdrop for the adventure.
Participants can choose routes in different neighborhoods, such as Akihabara, Asakusa, Shinjuku, or Shibuya. Each route has iconic landmarks and is accompanied by experienced guides who ride ahead and behind the group to ensure safety.
Another detail that makes the experience fun is the possibility of wearing costumes. There are superheroes and cartoon characters, and the truth is that the costumes help you get into the relaxed spirit of the tour.
I chose the Pikachu costume, and my son chose the Snorlax costume. Believe me, it was hard to contain my laughter when we saw ourselves in the mirror, but that was the whole point!

To participate, you must have an international driver’s license or, in some cases, your original license accompanied by an official certified translation.
Please note that without this document, you will not be allowed to drive the karts. Tours usually last between one and two hours, and you can book online in advance.
At the end, you will feel like you have seen Tokyo from a completely different perspective, combining tourism with adventure.
Our experience driving Street Kart Tokyo
We arrived at the meeting point full of enthusiasm. We chose our costumes, watched the explanatory video, and listened carefully to the guide’s instructions.
After all, it’s not every day that you get to drive in one of the world’s largest cities. And in such a unique vehicle!
As soon as we set off, the energy of Shibuya immediately enveloped us. The wide streets, bright billboards, and constant movement of people and cars made everything more intense.
Driving alongside my son made the experience even more special. We laughed, exchanged knowing glances, and felt that we were sharing something unique.
One of the highlights of the tour was crossing the famous Shibuya Crossing, and the most incredible thing is that we crossed it several times.
We opted for the package with a camera installed in the kart and at the end we received a card with the complete video of the tour. We also received several photos of ourselves by email to immortalize the moment.

Why we chose Shibuya for our experience
Shibuya is one of Tokyo’s busiest neighborhoods, and driving there means being in the heart of the city.
In addition, it was important for us to cross the famous Shibuya intersection, which is why we chose this location.

Important requirements: international driver’s license and traffic rules
It is essential to carry a valid international driver’s license. Some nationalities can use their original license with a certified translation, but it is advisable to confirm this beforehand.
During the tour, all Japanese traffic rules must be obeyed.

Each group is accompanied by experienced guides, who control the pace and ensure that no one gets lost.
In our case, Cole accompanied us and was five-star! It is mandatory to watch a safety video and attend a safety briefing before setting off.
Practical tips: what to wear, bring, and expect from the tour
Wear comfortable clothing and closed shoes. Bringing an action camera is a good idea, but filming packages are also available.
Expect attention from passersby, because the karts always attract the curiosity of those passing by.
You will notice that many people wave to those in the karts, and it is polite to smile and wave back.

Yes, it’s definitely worth it! Street Kart Tokyo isn’t just a fun activity, it’s a different way to experience the city.
The chance to drive through the real streets, wearing a costume, accompanied by the thrill of sharing this with my son, made this one of the most memorable experiences of our trip to Japan.
