Are you looking for hotels with a spa, heated pool, jacuzzi, hot tub, massages for two and other treats for a romantic getaway? Then you’ve come to the right place!
As a Portuguese travel writer, I’ve explored spa hotels across the country from a local’s perspective, not just as places to stay, but as part of the experience itself.
Over the years, I’ve stayed in several spa hotels in Portugal, both as a couple and, occasionally, with my children.
That mix of experiences helped me understand which hotels truly work for a romantic escape and which ones are better suited to other types of travel.
This guide brings together spa hotels that stand out for comfort, privacy and atmosphere, not because they follow trends, but because they consistently deliver a good experience for couples.
The hotels are organised from north to south, making it easier to plan a romantic getaway while exploring different regions of Portugal.
This article is based on first-hand stays in spa hotels across Portugal.

Spa hotels in Portugal for a romantic getaway
Choosing a romantic spa hotel in Portugal goes beyond finding a place with a heated pool or a jacuzzi. Location, privacy, atmosphere and the overall balance between comfort and wellness all play an important role.
The hotels below were selected based on personal experience and practical criteria, such as spa facilities, room comfort, surroundings and suitability for couples.
They are listed from north to south, making it easier to plan a romantic trip while exploring different regions of Portugal.
Monte Prado Hotel & Spa (Melgaço) – Romantic Spa Hotel Surrounded by Nature
For a romantic getaway I recommend the Monte Prado Hotel & Spa in Melgaço.
In fact, it’s one of my favorite hotels in northern Portugal with a spa and heated indoor pool!
The hotel is surrounded by nature, with incredible views of the River Minho and the mountains.
I particularly liked the indoor pool with hydromassage jets and the sauna, perfect for a moment for two.
The massages and treatments are great for those who want to relax and can be booked directly when you arrive at the hotel.
The rooms are comfortable, spacious and some have balconies overlooking the pool. Waking up to that view makes all the difference.
The hotel restaurant also deserves a mention. I tried some delicious dishes, including an octopus that will stay in my memory forever.
Breakfast has plenty of options, such as fresh fruit, bread and cakes straight out of the oven.
As far as the town of Melgaço is concerned, there is plenty to see and explore, such as visiting the castle, tasting Alvarinho wine or walking the Marginal Routes of the River Minho.
So if you’re looking for a hotel with a spa for a romantic getaway, I recommend Monte Prado Hotel & Spa.

Prazer da Natureza Resort & Spa (Vilar de Mouros) – A Quiet Spa Retreat for Couples
Here’s a suggestion for a hotel with a spa in a peaceful haven close to nature: Prazer da Natureza Resort & Spa (4 stars).
The fact that this hotel with a jacuzzi is in a remote location is excellent for those who want to disconnect from the world, but enjoy a place of comfort.
I especially enjoyed the massage for two after some time relaxing in the jacuzzi, but you could just as easily stay in the indoor pool.
The bungalows and suites are comfortable, and some have a kitchenette. However, I recommend that even if you can cook, you have at least one meal in the hotel restaurant.
The food is delicious, but what I liked most was the breakfast with fresh, homemade products.
If you want to go for a walk, I recommend a trip to Vilar de Mouros, Caminha, a stroll along the River Minho or even a trip to Spain.
For a romantic getaway in contact with nature, I recommend Prazer da Natureza Resort & Spa!

DreamVille – Casa da Tapada (Arcos de Valdevez) – Private Jacuzzi Stay for a Romantic Escape
If you’re looking for a romantic getaway in the north of Portugal, DreamVille – Casa da Tapada, in Arcos de Valdevez, is a fantastic choice.
In fact, since they installed a private jacuzzi at Casa da Tapada, it has become one of my favorite accommodations with a jacuzzi.
The house combines rustic charm with modern amenities, meaning that the stone and wood details create the perfect atmosphere for a getaway for two.
Another great feature is the outdoor space, which includes a cozy barbecue area and a pool.
The highlight is the jacuzzi, which is always at the ideal temperature.
And if you want to explore the region, in Arcos de Valdevez I recommend taking a stroll through the Peneda-Gerês National Park, discovering typical villages or hiking the Ecovia do Vez trail, which passes close to the accommodation.
So if you’re looking for a special place to relax and disconnect from the world, DreamVille – Casa da Tapada is a safe bet.

Penafiel Park Hotel & Spa (Penafiel) – Romantic Spa Hotel Near Porto
The Penafiel Park Hotel & Spa (4 stars) is an excellent hotel with a spa in the north of Portugal and has the advantage of being about half an hour from the city of Porto.
Also, the spa has good facilities and is great for a romantic weekend, and I particularly enjoyed the Invigorating Water Circuit.
The rooms are comfortable and modern, and the good news is that some have a whirlpool bath in the room, which makes the experience even more special.
The hotel restaurant also surprised me with its quality and sophisticated atmosphere.
In addition, the Penafiel area has a lot to discover. My recommendation is that you take a trip to the Schist Village of Quintandona and explore the rich tradition of green wines at Quinta da Aveleda.
In other words, if you want a hotel with a spa for a relaxing getaway near the city of Porto, the Penafiel Park Hotel & Spa is a great option.

How about a romantic retreat by the Aguieira Dam? If you think that’s a good idea, then Montebelo Aguieira Lake Resort & Spa (5 stars) is the perfect choice.
The spa is one of the hotel’s strong points, where massages and treatments are great for relaxing.
I particularly liked the privacy of the apartments, ideal for an uninterrupted romantic getaway, or for family travelers.

Hotel Alambique de Ouro (Fundão) – Spa Hotel with Thermal Pools in Central Portugal
Alambique Hotel Resort & Spa (4 stars) is an excellent option for those who want to relax without sacrificing comfort.
We haven’t yet been to try out the new spa wing, but what we have seen is more than enough to recommend this hotel for romantic getaways!
I loved the dynamic pool, with water jets that help relieve tension and provide incredible relaxation.
The rooms are spacious and well-equipped.
The hotel’s cuisine is also worth mentioning. I tried dishes from Beira Baixa and loved the authentic flavors, especially the homemade desserts.

Évora Hotel (Évora) – Romantic Spa Hotel in the Alentejo
If you’re looking for a romantic getaway in the Alentejo, the Évora Hotel (4 stars) is a great option.
The rooms are comfortable and well decorated. Some have balconies overlooking the Alentejo countryside, while others have a view of the pool.
The restaurant is also noteworthy, with dishes inspired by Alentejo cuisine. What I liked most was the regional bread and cheeses, which were always fresh and tasty.
At the Évora Hotel, you can enjoy two outdoor swimming pools, one for adults and one for children, and around them there are sun loungers for relaxing in the sun while you enjoy a drink from the pool bar. There are also changing rooms and an outdoor shower for your convenience.
Inside, the heated pool, with its water cannon, gets plenty of natural light, which I liked a lot.
Right next door, you can take advantage of the jacuzzi for a moment of pure relaxation or opt for a session in the sauna, perfect for detoxifying the body. To complete the experience, a cold shower helps to revitalize.
The hotel’s Wellness Center also has a Turkish bath, and for an extra touch of tranquillity, you can book an outdoor massage.
Finally, the location makes it easy to explore Évora’s historic center.
So if you are looking for a hotel with a spa to relax in the Alentejo, I recommend Évora Hotel.
