Are you unsure about what to pack for a cruise trip? I completely understand, as I went through the same thing on my first voyage aboard a ship.
A cruise trip has some specific considerations you should keep in mind when packing your suitcase.
On one hand, I didn’t want to be overloaded with things I wouldn’t use, and on the other hand, I didn’t want to be embarrassed by wearing inappropriate clothing.
Additionally, I was traveling with two children, which significantly complicates the logistics of packing.
So, to give you an idea of what you might need on a cruise, here are my suggestions.

What to pack in your suitcase for a cruise?

You need to make sure your luggage includes everyday clothes as well as outfits for theme nights.
For example, the captain’s night is the perfect time to shine in a beautiful evening dress, while boys look good in a long-sleeved shirt if they don’t want to wear a suit.
Casual clothes for daytime outings

During the day, you will probably leave the ship on an organized tour or explore on your own, so make sure you have appropriate clothing for the climate of the region you will be visiting.
This is because a cruise in the Caribbean is different from one in Northern Europe.
In any case, I advocate for simplicity, so I always recommend bringing comfortable clothing that is easy to mix and match with other pieces.
Another super important item is shoes. For walking during the day, you should prioritize sneakers or comfortable footwear. No one deserves pain or blisters on their feet during a vacation.
Formal wear, especially for the gala night

Dinner with the captain on gala night is not mandatory, of course; only those who want to go will attend, but it is a fun experience! I think that at least once, cruise enthusiasts should participate.
At the beginning of the dinner, the ship’s captain greets the guests and is available for photos, which are later sold at a premium, but it’s worth it for the experience.
Men usually wear suits, and women wear long dresses, but no one will prevent you from entering if you aren’t dressed this way. I think a good dose of common sense is always welcome.
Themed clothing for special nights

The themed nights are fun, and just like the captain’s night, I think it’s worth trying at least once to see if you enjoy it.
Examples of these themed nights include White Night, 60s-70s-80s Night, and Italian Night.
It’s bizarre to leave your cabin and suddenly see everyone dressed in white. With rare exceptions, people are dressed in white from head to toe on White Night.
The 60s-70s-80s Night has visibly fewer fans, but even so, you can see entire families dressed in period costumes.
Finally, on Italian Night, passengers wear the colors of the Italian flag: green, white, and red.
This night is special because during dinner, before dessert is served, the restaurant staff enter in celebration, singing an Italian song with sparkling cakes in the air, and suddenly everyone grabs their napkin and waves it in the air.
A party!
Swimsuit and gym clothes
Even if you don’t leave the ship to go to the beach, cruise ships usually have pools, in fact, some have several pools, so don’t forget your swimsuit.
The same goes for gym clothes, as you might feel like working out in the gym or going for a run around the ship’s deck.
