Flights and airlines operating at Ottawa Airport

Ottawa Airport is served by several Canadian and international airlines. The most frequent are Air Canada, WestJet, Porter Airlines, Flair Airlines and Air Transat.

In addition, on the international sector, there are seasonal connections operated by companies such as United Airlines, Delta, American Airlines and Air France (via Montreal or Toronto).

Most flights connect Ottawa with Canadian cities such as Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver and Halifax, as well as destinations in the USA.

Are there direct flights from European cities and transatlantic flights to Ottawa?

Most transatlantic flights to Ottawa are seasonal and originate in the US or European hubs with a stopover.

However, some companies have occasional direct connections to destinations such as London or Frankfurt, but they are less frequent than to Toronto or Montreal.

So, if you’re coming from Europe, the most common way is to make a stopover in a Canadian or American city before arriving in Ottawa.

In my case, as there are currently no direct flights from Portugal to Ottawa, the most practical way to get to the Canadian capital is to fly to Toronto or Montreal (both with direct flights from Lisbon and Porto) and then take a domestic flight or train to Ottawa. That’s what I did.

How do I get from Ottawa Airport to downtown?

The airport is well located, about a 15-20 minute drive from downtown Ottawa.

I went downtown by train and it took me about an hour.

The airport train station is on level 2 and tickets can be bought from the automatic machines. You can expect to pay around 4 CAD for the ticket, but if you pay with cash instead of a bank card, you’ll pay a few cents more.

There are also fixed rate cabs (around 40 CAD), Uber and Lyft services and private transfers.

If you prefer comfort and convenience and budget isn’t an issue, private transfers can be booked in advance.

How many terminals does Ottawa International Airport have?

Ottawa Airport has a single terminal, which is modern and easy to navigate. The check-in, departures and arrivals areas are well organized and signposted.

Although small, the airport has all the essential services, such as restaurants, duty free stores, free wi-fi, sockets for charging your cell phone, ATMs and comfortable waiting areas.

Is it worth renting a car at Ottawa Airport?

This is an important question, but if you’re just visiting the city, a car isn’t essential. This is because public transport is reliable and the city center is easy to get around on foot.

However, if you want to visit places outside the city such as Gatineau Park, Kingston, or head to Montreal or Toronto, renting a car is an excellent idea.

I use and recommend DiscoverCars, a secure platform where you can compare prices, choose the best option and book with free cancellation.

Yes, Uber and Lyft are available at Ottawa Airport. Meeting points for shared rides are clearly marked in the arrivals areas.

In addition, cabs, limousines and shuttle services are available. Rates vary according to distance and time of day.

Is it possible to spend the night at Ottawa Airport?

Yes, although it’s not the most comfortable. The airport is partially closed at night, but passengers with early morning flights can stay in the public areas.

There are some armless chairs and quieter areas, but you should bring a blanket or jacket.

There are also cushioned seats without armrests where you can sleep, and my suggestion is between Gate 24-25.

However, for greater comfort, it’s best to book a hotel nearby.

Yes, there are several options for where to stay in Ottawa within walking distance of the terminal. Thus, the Hilton Garden Inn Ottawa Airport and the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Ottawa Airport are among the most recommended, with free transportation to the airport.

Other alternatives include the Hampton Inn by Hilton Ottawa Airport and the Homewood Suites by Hilton.
