Looking for hotels in São Jorge? Quinta da Magnólia is my top recommendation!
If you’re looking for accommodation suggestions in São Jorge, in the Azores, then you’ve come to the right place! I spent a wonderful few days at Quinta da Magnólia, a charming hotel in the heart of Fajãs Island, which I recommend without hesitation.
But it’s not just about hotels in São Jorge! In other words, I believe that choosing to stay at Quinta da Magnólia is to enjoy an experience in an Azorean House, which should be part of any itinerary in the Azores! And you know what, it’s just like they say: “Come in as a client. Leave us like family.”
They opened their doors on June 30, 2018, have 10 super-comfortable rooms and a few more on the way, an infinity pool overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and neighboring Pico Island, and breakfast with regional products is part of the experience, which means it’s always included.
So read this article to the end and see why this hotel in São Jorge is so special.

My experience at Quinta da Magnólia in São Jorge
From the moment I arrived at Quinta da Magnólia, I knew I was in a special place.
I’ll hardly forget the warm welcome from Pedro Fernandes, who, with a smile on his face and pride in his heart, told me the story of this family project.
Quinta da Magnólia was born in 2018, when Pedro and his family decided to transform the old house, which had been bought by his father, into an example of differentiated tourism in São Jorge.
The idea came naturally, as there was a lack of unique accommodation on offer that would provide guests with a memorable experience.
And so the boutique hotel was born, with the authentic basalt stone of the Azores giving it an aura of magic.

What are the bedrooms like at Quinta da Magnólia?
My room, named Fajã das Almas, was an unforgettable refuge.
The room was spacious and carefully decorated, with windows that let the light in and a balcony with incredible views.
The attention to detail can be seen in details such as a card saying goodnight and a small frame explaining the meaning of the name of my room.

I woke up to a breathtaking view of the Pico Volcano, covered in snow, a rare sight, as it’s not every day that we can be graced with such a special scene!

How is breakfast at Quinta da Magnólia?
Breakfast was another highlight of my stay.
Warm pancakes, topped with mouth-watering homemade jams, the island’s famous cheese, fluffy yogurt cake and freshly baked bread? What a treat!
I was even asked if I wanted eggs for my breakfast, but I preferred to leave that option for those who like this delicacy first thing in the morning.

After the meal, I decided to explore Quinta da Magnólia a little further.
I was completely enchanted by the infinity pool, which seemed to merge with the horizon, so believe me, Quinta da Magnólia has an atmosphere that envelops you in a unique way.

So, if you’re looking for a place where you can feel the true essence of the Azores, surrounded by natural beauty and with excellent service, I believe Quinta da Magnólia is the ideal place.

What are Casas Açorianas?
Casas Açorianas is a network of Local Accommodation in the Azores archipelago, made up of Rural Tourism units.
The Rural Tourism Association is the entity responsible for promoting and managing this type of accommodation, which stands out for providing an authentic experience in direct contact with nature and the local culture.
In this way, Casas Açorianas offer tourists the chance to stay in rural houses, often in isolated areas, away from the urban hustle and bustle.
These places are known for their authentic atmosphere, the genuine hospitality of their hosts and for offering services that promote sustainability and respect for local tradition.
The association brings together several houses on all the Azorean islands and aims to promote sustainable tourism, highlight the potential of the Azorean landscapes and offer immersive experiences for visitors, such as activities linked to agriculture, handicrafts and regional gastronomy.
It was exactly this experience that I had when I stayed at Quinta da Magnólia, in São Jorge, and I have to admit that I am curious to visit other Azorean Houses in this beautiful and surprising archipelago.
