I spent three days in this city and was enchanted by its industrial history, canals, museums and vibrant gastronomic scene. Believe me, Birmingham is a city that deserves to be explored with time!
So, to get the most out of the city, it’s essential to choose the right place to stay in Birmingham.
So, what’s the best location? The city center (Bullring & Grand Central) or the outskirts of Broad Street, Jewellery Quarter, Digbeth and Cheapside are good bets, in my opinion!
Fortunately, some of Birmingham’s best hotels are in these very areas.
And to help you choose, in this article I’ve included suggestions for luxury hotels and budget options, as well as hotels with excellent value for money.

For a more boutique atmosphere, consider the Hotel du Vin Birmingham, located in a Victorian building in the city center, with an award-winning restaurant and stylish rooms.

3 and 4 star hotels in Birmingham
It is in the 3- and 4-star segment that Birmingham shines, as it has excellent quality accommodation at reasonable prices.
The Staybridge Suites Birmingham by IHG (4 stars) is an excellent choice for extended stays, as it has modern studios and an equipped kitchen. It’s in the heart of the city, perfect for exploring Birmingham on foot.
The Clayton Hotel Birmingham, an elegant 4-star, stands out for its contemporary design and proximity to Birmingham New Street train station.
However, if you prefer a modern and affordable hotel, the Aloft Birmingham Eastside (4 stars) is a great choice, with spacious rooms and a relaxed atmosphere.

Budget/affordable hotels in Birmingham
If you want to save money without sacrificing comfort, there are some great budget hotels in Birmingham.
The Holiday Inn Express – Birmingham – City Centre by IHG (3 stars) is one of the most popular options, offering comfortable rooms and breakfast included.
Another affordable and well-located alternative is the ibis Birmingham Centre New Street Station (3 stars), just a few steps from the Bullring Shopping Centre and busy Broad Street.
For an affordable and functional stay, the easyHotel Birmingham is an excellent choice, guaranteeing comfort and a good location at a fair price.

What’s the best area to stay in Birmingham?
The city centre is the best area to stay in Birmingham, especially between Broad Street, New Street and the Jewellery Quarter. If you’re looking for a more alternative and vibrant area, Digbeth is also a great choice.
How much do hotels cost in Birmingham?
Prices vary, but a 3 or 4-star hotel costs between €70 and €130 per night. Luxury hotels are over €200, while budget hotels can be as low as €70.
As I mentioned, I chose to stay in a flat in Cheapside and paid around €80 a night for a family of four.
How many days to stay in Birmingham?
I recommend at least three days to explore the city’s main sights, but if you want to enjoy the gastronomy and the surrounding area, 4-5 days are ideal.
I stayed 3 days, but I wouldn’t mind staying another day or two.
