Air India: Complete Guide for Your First Trip with India’s Flag Carrier.
Air India is India’s main airline and one of the oldest operating airlines in the world.
Founded in 1932, it is currently owned by the Tata Group and is part of the Star Alliance, allowing passengers to earn miles and benefit from connections with partner airlines.
With hubs in New Delhi (Indira Gandhi International Airport) and Mumbai (Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport), the airline offers flights to over 100 destinations across several continents, in addition to an extensive domestic network.
In this article, I share my onboard experience and answer the most frequently asked questions about Air India, from check-in to meals, baggage, entertainment, and destinations served.
Shall we dive in?

My Experience Flying with Air India
Boarding was smooth and well-organized, even at busy airports like London and New Delhi. The crew was friendly at all times.
The seat pitch in economy class was acceptable, allowing for a comfortable journey on long-haul flights. It’s not luxurious, but it gets the job done.
Meals were included. There were vegetarian options, very common in India, as well as international dishes. To my taste, the food was flavorful, but my husband and children didn’t enjoy it. They found the seasonings too strong.
The in-flight entertainment system included Indian and international movies, music, TV shows, and games. It wasn’t the most extensive selection I’ve seen, but it was enough to pass the time.
During the flight, the crew offered snacks and drinks several times, which made the experience more pleasant. Overall, I consider Air India a solid choice for traveling to or from India.
