Here’s everything you need to know about the Viana Coração do Natal program, as well as what to see and do in Viana do Castelo during the Christmas season… or rather, all the information that has already been confirmed by the City Council.
This is because the final program is not yet final, which means that at the time of writing this post, all the activities are not yet known.
In any case, everything indicates that it will be similar to last year.
So, here’s what to do at Christmas in Viana and here’s my promise to update the information as soon as possible.

What to do at Christmas in Viana do Castelo?
Explore the Viana Christmas Markets
It looks like the markets will continue this year too, as last year’s Christmas markets in Viana were a huge success!
This is excellent news, because Christmas Markets in Portugal are the ideal time to buy unusual handicrafts.
So, if you also like to treat your family and friends to beautiful and original handicrafts, I’m sure you’ll be delighted with the Christmas stalls in Viana.
All that remains now is to confirm whether the location of the markets will remain the same, as last year they were held in Praça da República and Praça da Liberdade.

Seeing the Christmas lights
The Christmas lights in Viana this year promise to be even better, as more of the city’s streets will be decorated with lights of all colors.
In any case, the highlight is still Avenida dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra, which will be specially decorated.
I’m very curious to see how the Christmas lights will look in Viana, as last year they were very beautiful, especially with the multimedia shows with synchronized music.

And to see how many illuminated streets there are in Viana, here’s a list:
- Avenida dos Combatentes da Grande Guerra;
- Rua Manuel Espregueira;
- Rua da Picota;
- Rua da Bandeira (entre a Praça da República e a Avenida Afonso III);
- Passeio das Mordomas da Romaria;
- Rua Gago Coutinho;
- Rua Aurora do Lima;
- Rua Sacadura Cabral;
- Rua Mateus Barbosa;
- Rua São Pedro;
- Rua Grande;
- Largo João Tomás da Costa;
- Largo 5 de Outubro;
- Rua Martim Velho;
- Avenida Rocha Páris;
- Rua Nova de Santana;
- Praça 1º de Maio;
- Avenida Conde da Carreira, entradas da cidade (rotundas);
- Jardim Marginal (anfiteatro e envolvente);
- Praça da República e Antigos Paços do Concelho;
- Avenida Luís de Camões;
- Rua de Aveiro;
- Avenida Rocha Páris (lado norte);
- Rua do Poço;
- Rua Cândido dos Reis;
- Capitães de Abril;
- Jardim D. Fernando;
- Largo de São Domingos;
- Avenida Campo do Castelo;
- Campo d’Agonia;
- Avenida João Alves Cerqueira.
In addition, the site of the Viana 3D Christmas Tree, which is around 27 meters high, will once again be in the Marina Garden.

Taking the kids on the ice rink, carousel and Christmas train
The ice rink, as well as the carousel and Christmas train are activities that children really enjoy!
Anyway, and truth be told, it’s very rewarding to see kids having fun during the Christmas vacations and creating happy memories.
So if you want to do the same for your children, don’t miss the chance to take them to Viana this Christmas.

See the Christmas cribs
Christmas nativity scenes are a tradition in Portugal, and Viana do Castelo is no exception.
So I recommend that you take some time to see the nativity scenes in Viana do Castelo.

I believe that more activities related to the Viana Heart of Christmas program will be announced in the coming weeks, so I will update this post with more information as soon as possible.
