Cabo Girão Skywalk and Viewponit: Discover the Majesty of Europe’s Highest Promontory in Madeira Island.
Situated in the municipality of Câmara de Lobos on Madeira Island, Cabo Girão stands as the tallest promontory in Europe, boasting an impressive altitude of approximately 589 meters that plunges almost vertically into the sparkling Atlantic Ocean.
Adding to its allure is the installation of a suspended glass platform, known as the Skywalk, providing visitors with a mesmerizing vantage point to marvel at the rugged cliffs and the vast expanse of the sea below.
For thrill-seekers and adventurers, Cabo Girão offers an exhilarating experience, igniting a sense of awe and wonder. However, I advise those with vertigo (like myself) to exercise caution and avoid venturing too close to the edge.
On the other hand, for families seeking a delightful outing, Cabo Girão promises a charming and memorable excursion.
I highly recommend including this remarkable viewpoint in your itinerary when exploring the beautiful island of Madeira.
What is Cabo Girão Skywalk?
Cabo Girão Skywalk is a remarkable tourist attraction located on Madeira Island, Portugal.
Renowned as one of Europe’s highest viewpoints, it offers breathtaking panoramic vistas of the Atlantic Ocean, the cliffs, and the picturesque landscapes of Madeira.
For those unfamiliar with it, the Skywalk consists of a suspended glass platform positioned approximately 580 meters above sea level at Cabo Girão.
The unique feature of this attraction is that the glass platform extends beyond the cliff, providing visitors with an unparalleled experience, as if they were floating in mid-air.
Walking on the transparent floor, guests are immersed in the sensation of being suspended in the void, with unobstructed views of the precipice and the stunning scenery beneath them.
Undoubtedly, it is an exhilarating experience for thrill-seekers, but for individuals with a fear of heights (like myself), it can be quite challenging!
In addition to the captivating Skywalk, the site encompasses other facilities, including a visitor center, cafes, and souvenir shops, ensuring a well-rounded visit.
The popularity of Cabo Girão Skywalk has soared, attracting tourists from around the globe to Madeira Island.
Nevertheless, it is crucial to note that this attraction may not be suitable for individuals who experience vertigo or fear of heights, as the sensation of being on a suspended platform can be intense. Safety precautions should be followed attentively.
Visit Cabo Girão Skywalk and embark on an extraordinary adventure, but remember to prioritize your well-being and comfort during the visit.

At the Cabo Girão viewpoint, prepare to be mesmerized by not only the breathtaking views of Câmara de Lobos and the vast sea but also the distant cityscape of Funchal.
As you cast your gaze downward, you’ll witness the enchanting sight of cultivated land, known as the typical fajãs, nestled amidst the surroundings.
Interestingly, prior to the construction of the elevator, these fertile fields could only be reached by sea, posing challenges for the hardworking farmers.
Astonishingly, from the suspended glass platform, you’ll have the opportunity to feast your eyes on Fajã do Rancho and Fajã do Cabo Girão. These remarkable coastal areas are renowned for their nearly untouched beaches and can be accessed through the Fajãs do Cabo Girão Cable Car.
