Are you thinking of taking a trip to Cabeça Christmas Village in Seia this year? Then take note that in 2023, the village of Cabeça will dress up to welcome visitors between December 8, 2023, and January 1, 2024, and the official program is already known.

You’ve probably heard about the genuine nature of this festival and the crowds that head to this lesser-known area of the Serra da Estrela, in Portugal.

The small village of Cabeça, belonging to the municipality of Seia, almost goes unnoticed on the mountain for the rest of the year, but that’s not always the case.

While the landscapes are beautiful all year round, it’s during Christmas that the approximately 170 inhabitants of Cabeça get to work to decorate the village.

And what fairy hands they have! The uniqueness of this event is that the Christmas decorations adorning the streets and squares of the village are made using waste from the mountains, that is, reusing materials.

Branches, pine cones, LED lights, rough and worked logs decorate and bring life to every corner of the village. There’s no doubt that Cabeça Aldeia Natal deserves your visit!

So take note: in 2023, the Christmas Market of the Village of Cabeça will take place between December 8 and January 1, 2024.

It’s a pleasure to stroll through the village from end to end because every corner is tastefully decorated, showcasing the locals’ keen creativity.

For those who think that a million-dollar budget is needed to organize a beautiful, original, and talk-of-the-town festival, they must have never been to Cabeça.

Here, much is made from little, and ingenious and eco-friendly Christmas decorations are constructed from simple branches and pieces of wood.

Moreover, as if adorning the village for visitors weren’t enough, in Cabeça, it’s not uncommon for doors to open for visitors to peek inside the houses.

On the dining room tables, unique decorations rest, shimmering with oranges and glasses alongside candlesticks with vivid red candles.

And if you’re thinking of having a snack there, then know that in garages and small courtyards, tables and chairs are set up, serving mountain delicacies like cheeses, sausages, bread, and good wine.

Every year there’s something new in Cabeça, which is why we love to come back so much.

At first, it was the unique decoration, then came the LED lights, the Christmas Village Market, the concerts, workshops, and so much more to see.

The program for Cabeça Christmas Village this year is super complete. In fact, with so many activities and so interesting, the difficult part is choosing when to go.

How to get to Cabeça Christmas Village

We traveled from Porto, and the route we chose was as follows: We headed south on the A1 until the IP3 towards Viseu.
