Did you know that Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market is the largest German-inspired Christmas market outside Germany or Austria? Here’s everything you need to know to make the most of this Christmas festival between November 1 and December 24, 2025.
Admittedly, I’m passionate about German Christmas markets, and I got completely hooked on these events after visiting the Cologne Christmas market.
Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to visit other places renowned for their Christmas markets, such as Dusseldörf in Germany and Vienna in Austria, to name but a few.
I’ve also been amazed by London’s Christmas Markets, so it made perfect sense to go and see what’s so special about Birmingham’s Christmas Market.
The good news is that there are low-cost flights between most european cities and Birmigham, which makes a trip to this UK city economical.
So, have I convinced you to find out more about the Christmas festivities in Birmingham, UK?

Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market: my experience
I arrived at the Birmingham Christmas Markets with high expectations, and you know what, the experience was even better than I expected!
Why? Because the promise of Birmingham having the biggest German-inspired Christmas market outside of Germany or Austria is 100% true.
I was a little confused at first, but the official name of this event is “Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market”.
And if it weren’t for people speaking English, I’d say I was at a Christmas market in Germany.

The Christmas decorations and lights are similar to those of other European Christmas markets, but when it comes to typical food, it couldn’t be more like Germany.
There’s no shortage of different types of German sausages here, such as:
- Currywurst (grilled sausage, cut into pieces and served with curry sauce and ketchup);
- Bockwurst (milder sausage, usually made from veal or pork);
- Bratwurst: (traditional grilled sausage, served with bread);
- Weisswurst (traditional Bavarian white sausage, made from veal or pork, usually served with sweet mustard).
I was curious to see if we could eat 1/2 meter of bratwurst, and the result was that no one in the house managed to finish the bread, but it was carefully stored and consumed the next day.
The drinks are also traditional German fare, with lots of craft beer, gluhwein and weissbeer, i.e. wheat beer.

How many Christmas Markets are there in Birmingham?
There are three Christmas markets in Birmingham: the Cathedral Christmas Market, the Victoria Square Christmas Market and the New Street Christmas Market.
However, it’s important to note that, in practice, these three Christmas markets are linked, meaning that you’ll find Christmas stalls between the Cathedral, Victoria Square and New Street.
So it’s almost like one big Christmas Market, covering a significant part of the city.
