Birmingham Airport (BHX) is the main air gateway to the city of Birmingham, as well as to the West Midlands region.
It is located about 8 km from the city center and has good connections, both by bus and train, to different cities in the UK.
So in this article I’ve put together all the information I think is relevant if you’re thinking of traveling to this airport for the first time.
I’ve included details of direct flights and airlines that use this airport, as well as details of how to get to the city center, Uber, a map with the location of hotels and useful contacts.
So stick around and read to the end.

How do I get from Birmingham Airport to the city center?
The cheapest way to get from the airport to city center is by bus, with buses run by National Express West Midlands and Diamond Bus.
In both cases, you can expect to pay between £2-2.50 per journey and it takes around 15-20 minutes to get to the city center.

On the other hand, if you prefer to travel by cab, the cab rank is just outside the airport. Although it’s not cheap, it can pay off if you’re traveling with bulky luggage.
So expect to pay around £30-40 for a ride in a black cab from the airport to the center of Birmingham.

However, as I was traveling with my family and the flight from Porto arrived late, I preferred to call an Uber, for which I paid about £24.
So, if you want to use Uber in Birmingham, know that the pick-up point is outside the airport, next to the parking lot.
The thing is, drivers have to pay a £6 fee every time they enter this parking lot, which is why it’s so expensive.
So if you want to save a few quid, I recommend walking a few minutes to the free parking lot, which is about a 5-minute walk away.

Are there direct flights from UK to Birmingham?
Yes, there are direct flights to Birmingham (BHX) from several UK cities. Airlines like Aer Lingus, Ryanair, and KLM operate daily non-stop flights to Birmingham from major hubs, including Dublin, Amsterdam, and Frankfurt
I flew from Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport, in Porto, with Ryanair.
