Now here’s everything you need to know to decide if it’s worth buying beverage packages on cruises or not.
And you know what else? I did the math on how much I spent on drinks during a week-long cruise, compared it to the cost of the beverage package, and came to a conclusion, which I’ll share with you in this article!
I completely understand that deciding whether or not to purchase beverage packages on cruise ships is an important decision.
After all, these packages can be quite expensive, in my opinion! But rest assured, I believe you’ll find the answer to your question in this article.
So, keep reading!

Is it worth buying beverage packages on cruises?

On our first cruise aboard the MSC Orchestra, everything was new to us, and not wanting to risk high drink costs on the ship, we opted to purchase the “Allegríssimo” package (now called “Drinks TI Restaurant & Bar”).
As I recall, the cost of this package was 26 EUR per day for adults and 12 EUR per day for children.
We paid without complaint, but we also did something else: we kept all receipts showing the prices of the drinks we consumed during the cruise.
Every day, we fetched water bottles, had wine and soft drinks with meals, and at the bars, we enjoyed juices and cocktails—all without worrying about expenses, since these were included in the package.
When we returned home, we did the math and concluded that buying the beverage package was NOT worth it!
In other words, the total value of what we consumed was less than what we had paid.
However, when we booked our trip on the MSC Divina, there was a promotion offering the beverage package for free.
Despite feeling that the beverage package doesn’t justify the cost for our family, we took advantage of the offer since it was included.
It’s important to note that on both cruises, the buffet restaurants had water and lemonade dispensers available to everyone. Even without purchasing a beverage package, you could enjoy these drinks and potentially fill bottles to take with you for the day.
And don’t forget, the buffet restaurants are open nearly all day long.
