How do I get from Anchorage International Airport to downtown?

The cheapest way to get from the airport to downtown Anchorage is by bus.

You can take the Anchorage People Mover from the stop in the arrivals area, and the journey to Anchorage takes around 30 minutes.

In addition, the bus fare is 2 USD.

However, I preferred to take an Uber to my hotel because I was facing a 36-hour journey and needed to rest.

So, if you want to take an Uber at Anchorage Airport, you should go outside on Level 2, which is the pick-up point for ride-share apps.

But as well as Uber, Lift also operates in Anchorage.

In this case, I paid 18 USD from the airport to my hotel in Downtown Anchorage and I think it was worth it.

Are there direct flights from Europe to Anchorage, Alaska?

In Europe, there are only direct flights to Anchorage from Frankfurt, but these are seasonal flights and are not available all year round.

So, in practice, this means that you need to make a stopover at a European airport and another stopover at a North American airport before landing in Alaska.

In my case, I flew from Porto Airport to Amsterdam Schipol Airport, then to Seattle Airport before landing at Anchorage Airport.

Is there Uber at Anchorage International Airport?

Yes, in fact, I took Uber from the airport to my hotel. The Uber pick-up point at the airport is outside on Level 2.

Is it worth renting a car at Anchorage International Airport?

Yes, in my opinion it’s very worthwhile to rent a car at Anchorage Airport.

In fact, I’d say it’s almost obligatory! This is because although there are buses, taxis and Uber, none of these are as practical as having a rental car.

What’s more, the roads are in good condition and well signposted, which makes driving a lot easier.

The rent-a-car counters are in the South Terminal, just after the TSA security checkpoint, i.e. on Level 0.

For car rental I use and recommend Discovercars, which usually has good prices and conditions.
